Hoping in part to push along sales of NBA jerseys, more teams will wear uniforms with sleeves next season.

An NBA source told ESPN.com that as many as five teams will wear the short-sleeve jerseys as an alternate jersey for as much as 12 games during the season.

“We are interested in doing more short-sleeve jerseys when it makes sense,” said Patrik Nilsson, president of adidas North America.

Nilsson said Wednesday that adidas is motivated to get more fans wearing jerseys while also innovating the game jersey for the players. The company pays roughly $35 million a year to be the official apparel provider of the league through the 2016-17 season.

All teams were offered the option to add this jersey, according to Sal LaRocca, the league’s executive vice president of global merchandising, but LaRocca would not confirm exactly how many teams have committed to it.

-Q: What do you think of the Nets hiring Jason Kidd right out of his playing days? He gave you credit for some of that—for paving the way for former players without coaching experience. You deserve credit for this?

-JACKSON: No. I think at the end of the day Jason Kidd is an all-time great player who I’ve got a lot of respect for.

I’ve talked to him often. He reached out and thanked me and we’ve had great dialogue. I just think he’s going to do very well. I’m happy for him. I think it was a great hire for the Nets.

That being said, I think it’s now up to Jason to open the door for the next guy to prove that the naysayers are wrong.

What I don’t want is for people to say this doesn’t work or that does work… There’s been success stories with former players, straight out of the booth or straight from playing, success stories with people out of college or retread coaches.

And there’s been failures across the board.

We’ve got to look at each situation and judge it from that. I have a lot of respect for Jason Kidd, think he’s going to do great. To me, it meant a lot he reached out and I think it’s great for Brooklyn.

-Q: What are your thought about the Doc Rivers/Clippers talks, which I guess at this point are stalled or dead?

-JACKSON: I don’t know what to think about it , quite honestly. Doc is a great coach and I can see an organization wanting him.

I have no problem with making trades and trying to get a great coach. I think if it happens it’s great obviously for the Clippers. And the Celtics can make a decision just like they make a decision players execs or what have you.

Kings principal owner Vivek Ranadive will introduce Pete D’Alessandro as the team’s new general manager today at a news conference at Sleep Train Arena.

And Ranadive isn’t done changing the look of the Kings’ front office.

The Kings have offered Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame player and former Golden State Warriors executive Chris Mullin a role as a consultant, The Bee learned Sunday.

Sources said Mullin likely will accept. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the offer.

Mullin was the Warriors’ top basketball executive from 2004 to 2009. D’Alessandro worked for the Warriors from 2004 to 2008, the final two years as assistant general manager. D’Alessandro has never been a general manager, and Mullin would be a familiar voice of experience.

San Antonio Spurs v Golden State Warriors

Mychal Thompson didn’t mince words when his son Klay got involved in his first NBA skirmish in February by shoving Indiana’s Roy Hibbert in the back. He went on the airwaves in Los Angeles, where he is a radio host, to talk about the actions of his “dumb son” who, for his fine-inducing shove, would also get his allowance docked by his parents.

When reminded of the episode, Klay Thompson, the Warriors’ soft-spoken 23-year-old guard, just smiled.

“I’m used to it,” he said. “He’s been like that all my life. He’s got jokes.”

Golden State Warriors center Festus Ezeli underwent successful surgery yesterday on his right knee, the team announced. The procedure, which was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache of the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles, was necessary to reinforce both the medial collateral ligament and posterior cruciate ligament in Ezeli’s right knee. Ezeli suffered a sprained right knee during the club’s regular-season finale this season at Portland on April 17. He will begin rehabilitation in the near future and is expected to make a complete recovery. The team’s medical staff indicates that recovery time could be a minimum of 6-9 months.

Highlighted by 20 players owning USA Basketball experience, including one 2012 Olympic gold medalist and also featuring the last three NBA Draft No. 1 selections, USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo today announced that 27 players have accepted invitations to attend the 2013 USA Basketball Men’s National Team mini-camp that will be held July 22-25 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Accepting invitations to participate in the 2013 USA Basketball Men’s National Team mini-camp were: Ryan Anderson (New Orleans Pelicans); Harrison Barnes (Golden State Warriors); Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards); Mike Conley (Memphis Grizzlies/Ohio State); DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento Kings); Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans); DeMar DeRozan (Toronto Raptors); Andre Drummond (Detroit Pistons); Kenneth Faried (Denver Nuggets); Derrick Favors (Utah Jazz); Paul George (Indiana Pacers); Taj Gibson (Chicago Bulls); Gordon Hayward (Utah Jazz); Jrue Holiday (Philadelphia 76ers); Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers); DeAndre Jordan (Los Angeles Clippers); Ty Lawson (Denver Nuggets); Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio Spurs); Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers); Greg Monroe (Detroit Pistons); Chandler Parsons (Houston Rockets); Larry Sanders (Milwaukee Bucks); Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors); Dion Waiters (Cleveland Cavaliers); Kemba Walker (Charlotte Bobcats); John Wall (Washington Wizards); and Tyler Zeller (Cleveland Cavaliers).

Recently named 2013-16 USA Basketball National Team head coach and Duke University’s Naismith Hall of Fame mentor Mike Krzyzewski will direct the mini-camp. Serving as assistant coaches are USA Basketball and Syracuse University veteran coach Jim Boeheim, Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau and New Orleans Pelicans head coach Monty Williams.

“The group of players we have assembled for the mini-camp are extremely talented and very versatile. This is an important opportunity for each one of them because we will be evaluating which players will continue to be involved in future USA National Team training camps and teams,” said Colangelo, who has seen USA National teams compile a 62-1 record since taking charge of the USA Basketball Men’s National Team program in 2005. “Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, Danny Granger, and Andre Iguodala were all guys who played in our 2009 mini-camp and went on to play for the 2010 USA World Championship and 2012 U.S. Olympic teams that won gold. I’m sure it will not be much different this time around and some of the players involved in this mini-camp will be members of upcoming USA National teams.
